Fire Risk Assessments
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (2005) requires all non-domestic premises to perform a fire risk assessment. The penalties of non-compliance can be severe.
Do you require a fire risk assessment in London or anywhere else in the UK? At Phoenix Health and Safety, we can carry out fire safety risk assessments on your behalf or can assist you by providing an assessment form, examples or additional support.
Approach to Fire Risk Assessment
All fire risk assessments should have the same five step approach which is incorporated into general risk assessments:
- Identify the fire hazards
- Identify who is at risk
- Evaluate the risk and decide whether existing precautions are adequate
- Record the findings
- Review as and when necessary.
Identifying hazards in a fire risk assessment should focus on the three components which form the basis of the fire triangle:
Identification of fuel sources (card, furniture, paper, liquids etc.), identification of ignition sources (electrical appliance, heating equipment and lighting) and identification of oxygen sources (ambient air, ventilation systems and open door and windows). Fire prevention ultimately relies on keeping these three components separated at all times.
