The NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Qualification is a perfect introduction to health and safety in the workplace, suitable for all employees. With an emphasis on the principles of health and safety, rather than specific law, its focus is on the identification and control of common workplace hazards. It is a practical qualification, and part of the requirement is for candidates to carry out a risk assessment in a suitable workplace.

The next step for NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Qualification holders is often IOSH Managing Safely or the NEBOSH General Certificate.


The NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work award course is assessed in two parts:

  • HSW1 - a multiple-choice exam designed to test the candidate’s knowledge
  • HSW2 - a workplace-based risk assessment to test the practical application

All candidates who successfully complete the course will be awarded a NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Qualification Certificate.

  • How long does the NEBOSH Health & Safety at Work Qualification take?

    Three days, delivered at the candidate's place of work unless arranged otherwise. 
  • When and how will I receive my NEBOSH results?

    Results are notified by NEBOSH after completing the course. NEBOSH send out the results 10-12 weeks after the exams. Your certificates will arrive after the results have been announced.

  • What happens if I fail the NEBOSH assessment?

    The Phoenix Pass Pledge will cover your additional studies, but you retake the exams at your own cost.
