This course is ideal for anyone responsible for manual handling tasks within the workplace. You will learn how to carry out manual handling tasks effectively, understand how to perform a manual handling assessment, and better utilise the HSE manual handling tools and templates.

NEBOSH recommends that learners should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.

When studied in-house, the duration of this course is 1 day.

The NEBOSH Unit MHR1: Assessing Manual Handling Risk course is composed of 3 elements:

• Principles of manual handling: You will explore why manual handling should be avoided where possible, the moral, business and legal reasons for assessing and managing it. Finally, you will explore the common types of injuries that can arise due to manual handling.

• Managing manual handling risk: Identification of manual handling risk: You will discover the risk factors associated with manual handling, as well as how to properly apply HSE's manual handling assessment tools (MAC and RAPP) and what makes a risk assessment suitable and sufficient.

• Managing manual handling risk: Control of risk You will learn how to avoid manual handling risks thanks to the use of mechanical assistance. You will also deepen your knowledge of good manual handling techniques.

The learning outcomes of the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Manual Handling Risk Assessment are:

• Explain the importance of reducing risks associated with manual handling activities - Understand responsibilities in relation to manual handling

• Explain what manual handling risks are and how they may result in injury

• Demonstrate and practice appropriate manual handling risk assessment technique

• Apply wider elements of risk management for manual handling.

A practical assessment is completed at the end of the course. After watching a video of a manual handling activity in a workplace, you will be asked to assess it using HSE tools and templates. What is the level of the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in in Manual Handling Risk Assessment?

What level are NEBOSH qualifications?

NEBOSH Certificates are level 3, which is equivalent to an A level qualification. NEBOSH Diplomas are level 6, which is equivalent to an Honours Degree.

Are there any entry requirements for NEBOSH Certificates?

There are no entry requirements, which makes the NEBOSH Certificate an ideal starting point for your health and safety training. Learners must have a suitable standard of English language to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.  

When and how will I receive my results and NEBOSH certificate?

NEBOSH send out the results 10-12 weeks after the exams. Your certificates will arrive from Phoenix 10-12 weeks after the results have been announced.
