The NEBOSH Unit MHR1: Assessing Manual Handling Risk course is composed of 3 elements:
Principles of manual handling: You will explore why manual handling should be avoided where possible, the moral, business and legal reasons for assessing and managing it. Finally, you will explore the common types of injuries that can arise due to manual handling.
Managing manual handling risk: Identification of manual handling risk You will discover the risk factors associated with manual handling and how to properly apply HSE's manual handling assessment tools. Finally, you will learn what makes a manual handling risk assessment suitable and sufficient.
Managing manual handling risk: Control of risk You will learn how to avoid manual handling risks thanks to the use of mechanical assistance. You will also deepen your knowledge of good manual handling techniques.

The multiple-choice assessment must be accessed and completed via NEBOSH’s Online Assessment Platform and completed within a 24-hour assessment window. Learners can begin their assessment at any time within the 24-hour window but, once they have started the assessment, they must complete it within the designated time frame for the unit (1 hour for Unit MHR1).
