Course overview

Refresh your knowledge of the Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) with our one-day course.

Accredited by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), this training programme enables site supervisors to refresh their skills, update their knowledge, and keep their professional qualification valid.

The SSSTS refresher course provides candidates with an updated understanding of the relevant health, safety, welfare, environmental, and legal issues, including any legislation changes that affect their role and workplace.

Who is this course suitable for?

The CITB SSSTS refresher course is suitable for site managers, agents, and other construction industry professionals who have gained SSSTS accreditation in the past five years. Each SSSTS certificate lapses after five years, so the fresher course must be completed before that date. If the certificate is allowed to expire, you can only regain it by retaking the full SSSTS course.

  • Useful toolbox talks (a short presentation on a specific area of health and safety, presented by the candidates)

  • Conduct a thorough risk assessment

Next steps

Each SSSTS certificate should be renewed every five years via the refresher course. This is to allow for changes in technology, legislation, environmental management, and cultural behaviour.

Candidates can also progress to the Site Management Safety Training Scheme course

Assessment

The refresher course includes two assessments:

  • A multiple-choice examination paper
  • Continuous assessment during exercises

Certification

You cannot receive a certificate without full attendance (7.5 hours).

SSSTS training certificates are valid for five years. However, due to changes in technology, the law, environmental management, and cultural behaviour, it is recommended that you take the SSSTS Refresher Course every five years.
