The NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is one of the most popular degree-level qualifications for health and safety professionals.
The International Diploma increases candidates' ability to help organisations make sensible and proportionate decisions in managing risks. This supports their business objectives and regulatory requirements — delivering positive change in the workplace.
The NEBOSH Diploma covers the practical skills that are essential to health and safety professionals. We assess candidates’ ability to apply their knowledge in real-world settings and teach them how to deliver positive change in the workplace.
Who is this course suitable for?
The NEBOSH International Diploma is ideal for health and safety professionals wishing to advance their career outside the UK. This includes safety managers, advisors and consultants.
If you currently work or intend to base your career in the UK, the NEBOSH National Diploma may be more suitable.
There are no formal entry requirements for the NEBOSH International Diploma; however, we recommend first completing one of the following courses:
The course is split into four separate units: three taught and one practical, each assessed separately:
Unit A: Managing Health and Safety.
Unit B: Hazardous Substances/Agents

Unit DNI: This unit involves a workplace-based assessment that tests the practical application of knowledge gained in units A-C.

On completion of the NEBOSH International Diploma, you will be entitled to use “DipNEBOSH” after your name and apply for Graduate Membership with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (GradIOSH). It also allows full membership to the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).
The NEBOSH International Diploma acts as a stepping-stone to postgraduate study. Many universities accept the NEBOSH Diploma as entry criteria for MSc-level courses, providing a clear route to post-graduate study.
Units A, B, and C are tested in a three-hour written examination for each unit. A separate unit certificate is awarded for each unit passed.
