IOSH

What is IOSH Managing Safely?

IOSH Managing Safely in-house training is an excellent way for employees to learn new skills in familiar surroundings.

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) is a global chartered organisation that works to promote best practice in workplace health and safety.

In-house IOSH Managing Safely training is aimed at those with responsibility for their fellow employees, such as managers, team leaders and supervisors.

Through this IOSH training course, candidates gain an increased awareness of safety risks in the workplace. They also learn how to anticipate and mitigate those risks while assessing existing safety preparations.

More senior supervisors may want to progress from Managing Safely to the IOSH Leading Safely course. This includes issues of interest to senior management and company directors.

Moving on from an IOSH Managing Safely qualification, participants will be well-positioned to study for a career in health and safety. It’s particularly useful for workers seeking further accreditation from the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH).

As accredited providers of IOSH Managing Safely training courses, Phoenix Health & Safety can offer in-house coaching at your premises.

Course programme and duration

We deliver in-house IOSH Managing Safely courses over three days, with revision tasks and homework set for the evenings in between.

The IOSH Managing Safely curriculum covers seven areas:

  • Unit 1: Introducing managing safely
  • Unit 2: Assessing risks
  • Unit 3: Controlling risks
  • Unit 4: Understanding responsibilities
  • Unit 5: Understanding hazards
  • Unit 6: Investigating incidents
  • Unit 7: Measuring Performance

Together, these seven units give candidates a comprehensive understanding of managing safely. We will cover the broad principles of managing risks, as well as how to investigate incidents and report back on performance.

Assessment and certification

The IOSH Managing Safely assessment is split into two parts. The first is a multiple-choice examination to test that the candidate can recall the knowledge they have learnt in the preceding days.

A second element takes the form of a practical assessment, which tests the application of the knowledge learnt against real-world scenarios.

If the candidate reaches the required standard on both parts of the assessment, they receive an IOSH Managing Safely certificate.

If a candidate is unsuccessful, they can attend a further 1 day classroom course at one of our 37 nationwide learning centres. The cost for this further day’s training is £60 plus VAT.

Location

As an in-house training course, IOSH Managing Safely takes place on your premises. This means participants can learn with their colleagues, in familiar surroundings.

As well as the face-to-face training delivered over three days, our mentors are available via telephone, social media, email, and Skype.

If you would prefer us to host the training, we can offer IOSH Managing Safely classroom sessions at one of our 37 learning centres nationwide – you can find the list of locations here.

Alternatively, if remote workers are unable to travel into the office, our IOSH Managing Safely E-Learning course provides a way for them to gain equivalent certification online.
